Abstract

This paper presents experiences of using active methods in Materials Engineering undergraduate course in Brazil. From the experiments appointed, an analysis of the Pedagogical Project Course (PPC) of undergraduate courses in Materials Engineering is presented. Thus, the applicability of active methodologies in Materials Science and Engineering course (EMT) can be listed. The results show that learners are favorable to the use of active methodologies. However, more effective actions are necessary to convince the professors of the EMT.

Keywords: Active Methodologies, Problem-Based Learning, Engineering Education.

Introduction

In pursuit of improving the student–teacher relationship in the learning process, researchers in education and pedagogy have been seeking more participatory forms of student engagement, accompanied by a new teaching posture that fosters collaboration in learning. This has given rise to active methodologies.

For the implementation of an active methodology, it is necessary to reflect upon and intervene in engineering curricula, aligning the technical skills that must be developed by professionals with the most effective forms of active learning for students.

Through the Project for the Implementation of Active Methodologies at the Federal University of Itajubá, Itabira Campus, the use of active methodologies was evaluated in the Materials Engineering Program (EMT). The study focused on the application and analysis of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), summarized as follows…
